The Riding

The huge Portes du Soleil area is not only a Mecca for walkers and mountain bikers in the summer months. It is a haven for those horse lovers who want to spend some time bonding with a new four-legged friend whilst enjoying the spectacular scenery of the northern French Alps.

The riding terrain varies from low-land tracks, river- and lake-side rides along steep mountain paths and up to breath-taking views over the Dents du Midi and Dents Blanche ranges which span the Swiss/French border, all the better for being seen through a pair of horses ears!

Pierre Premat runs a very clean, tidy and professional yard and all his horses are strong, forward-going and well-schooled. In addition he has some 15 ponies to cater for family/children’s needs and also runs horse-management, riding qualification and show jumping courses.

This is an ideal opportunity to expand your horizons, get away with a few friends and see the mountains in a new light.

The Programme

We can tailor-make a week’s riding to suit your needs, perhaps fitting it around family and friends’ plans. Alternatively, we can provide a dedicated week’s riding which will take the form of:

Saturday – arrive. Morzine orientation. Discussion of the week’s plans. Dinner.
Sunday – meet your horse. Groom, tack-up, school, lunch, quiet afternoon hack around the local Lac du Montriond.
Monday & Tuesday – two 6-8 hour days of low-altitude hacking.
Wednesday – Free day. Take advantage of the other activities available such as walking, afternoon by the pool and/or visit one of the historic lake-side towns of Geneva, Thonon, Evian, Annecy or mediaeval Yvoire – rated as one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Thursday/Friday – culmination of the week a 2-day high-altitude tour of the Portes du Soleil, spending the night in a mountain refuge with dinner and breakfast cooked by your guide, then ride your horse back into Morzine the next day.
Saturday – depart.

The Accommodation

The lovely Chalet Flo is the base for this holiday. Food is of the highest quality, pre-dinner drinks and wine are included with your meals.

Prices

The sample programme outlined above to be confirmed. This include half-board accommodation in Chalet Flo (dinner on 6 nights), 5 days escorted riding, food and accommodation in the mountain refuge and return airport transfers Geneva.

Flights are not included, nor are lunches, insurance, day trip.

If you wish to stay at the Chalet Flo and only participate in occasional riding, the cost of hiring horses on escorted hacks is:

1 hour = 2007 prices to be confirmed.
2 hours = 2007 prices to be confirmed.
4 hours = 2007 prices to be confirmed.
whole day = 2007 prices to be confirmed.
