Equipment
Tyres
XC -The trails are mainly dusty but keep away from the semi slicks, as it can get slippy in the trees or after occasional rainfall. A decent tread like a Panaracer fire XC pro or Michelin Wildgripper is good and slightly wider is best for the rocky descents (2.1)
Downhill - Everyone has their faves, but the main thing is to keep 'em wide to float you across those boulder alleys. A second wet weather set can be a good idea.
Road - Whatever works for you. 23s help hold you down on the numerous high-speed hairpins you'll encounter
Gear Ratios
Road = Depending on your level of fitness, the minimum we'd recommend would be about 39 x 25. Don't be afraid to go lower if you're slower!
Cross Country and Downhill - standard
Clothing
- A good waterproof and windproof cape for descents
- Arm/leg warmers a good idea for cool morning
- Body armour for downhill
- Bring lots of kit, as you will be riding every day for at least a week.
- Most airlines will carry bikes out for you. Ask at the time of booking if there is any extra charge for this service. You can get bike boxes and bags at most bike shops.
- At the Chalet Nantégué, we have a garage area along with facilities for cleaning your bike.
- All of our accommodation has inside secure bike storage facilities.
- Our guides normally carry a small range of spares, available at a reasonable price
- We work closely with several bike shops in Morzine that are well equipped with the latest road and Mountain bike kit.
- To find the bike you want vist DIRT MBT www.dertmtb.com
If you are an experienced down-hiller or cross country rider and want to bring your own bike - that's no problem.
We are able to transport you and your bike from Geneva airport at a charge of £60 per person return (based upon a minimum of two persons travelling together) but you should also check with your airline to see if they provide this service as previously, airlines have made restrictions on transporting bikes with hydraulic brakes due to an increase on claims made by passenges with baggage ruined by hydraulic oil spillages. We understand that this ban has been lifted.
Simply pack your bike in a flat pack cardboard 'bike box' with a weight limit of 25 kilos. Please check with your airline for charges and transportation details.
