Shopping

Morzine has a perfect blend of traditional shops selling Savoyard fare, gifts, traditional pottery, wood and slate sculptures all hand made locally and fashionable sports shops, luxurious boutiques, perfumeries, jewellers and lingerie stores for those who want to shop till they drop. All shops are open until 7pm allowing a full days activities followed by an evenings shopping!

If you still have some energy left why not try some Après Soliel… You can choose between jumping bars like Le Crepu, relaxing bars where you can recount the days excitement over a beer whilst listening to gentle tunes such as the Buddha Bar or the sports bars with big screens such as the Dixie Bar or The Cavern. If you have energy to party all night you can end up in one of the nightclubs The Opera or The Paradis.

Restaurants

Take time out from your holiday activities to sample some delicious French cuisine. Try some of the excellent restaurants Morzine has to offer… from traditional mountain dishes to Pizzas, steaks, local trout or haute cuisine at the finest restaurants, there is something to suit everyone.

Local mountain dishes such as Tartiflette, Fondou and Raclette are delightful hearty and include cheese, potatoes and ham. Local fish are trout, perch and the famous Fera du Leman, a fish that is only found in Canada and Lake Geneva. Also on offer are the traditional cured meats, sausages, pates and terrines. Wines of the region are recommended; such as Montmelian, Pinot de Savoie, Gamay de Savoie and whites such as Seyssel and Crepy.

The local Eaux-de-Vie or water of life usually offered as digestives takes a range of forms such as Genepi, Chartreuse and Poire. Whilst, tasty they will knock your socks off! The local gastronomical delights are to be experienced by all who visit Morzine. Enjoy dining at the large selection of restaurants offering these local specialties.

Visit the market on Wednesdays to buy fresh produce or go into the specialty shops offering the local sausages, cured meats, cheeses and pates. Whist out hiking stop at an authentic cheese-making farm, or visit the cheese factory in town. But be sure not to miss the patisserie and chocolatiers for the finest cakes and chocolates, you are sure to burn off those calories with the alpine activities!

Golfing in and around Morzine

For challenging alpine golf courses coupled with outstanding mountain scenery. All of the courses are well kept and cleverly designed with standard features such as lakes and bunkers. There are great club facilities, restaurants, club hire, trolleys and caddie hire available from most courses.

From Morzine there are two courses easily accessable and many more within an hours drive. Les Gets 18 hole: Overlook Mont Blanc whilst enjoying this immaculate 5264 metre, par 70 course. £20 per round.

Avoriaz 9 hole: 2930m long high altitude course. Par 36. With wonderful views of the Haut Chablais & Portes du Soleil. £16 per round.

Evian Masters 18 hole: Home to the Ladies Masters. Fabulous views over Lake Geneva on this par 72, 6571m course. £30-£45 per round.

Take day trips from Morzine to some of the beautiful surrounding towns

Morzine is an ideal base from which to take day trips to surrounding towns to sample the cultural delights on offer in this area. The lakeside towns of Thonon and Evian provide a welcome relief to an action-packed activity holiday with the option of soothing both the mind and body in the luxurious Spa, taking lakeside strolls and enjoying the ambience, markets and shopping these towns offer. Visit the pretty, medieval walled town of Yvoire, it is a "must see" jewel in the crown of any visit to this area with attractions such as the Garden of the Five Senses and Reptile house as well as many craft shops.

Go to Geneva for a huge range of museums and galleries and wonder at the largest alpine lake, Lake Geneva (locally known as Lac Leman). Visit Annecy for famous medieval architecture, fabulous shopping, or swimming and water sports in the second cleanest lake in Europe. Go to Chamonix at the foot of Europe's Highest Mountain Mont Blanc (4807m) and take the second highest cable car in the world for stunning views over the whole of the Alps or take the cog wheel railway up to see the 'Mer de Glace' glacier and take visits to the ice cave within. Try some glacier walking and ice climbing or hit the shops and tea rooms to admire the dominating views of Europe's largest mountain.
